Rent a motorbike (scooter) for your whole stay. It’s certainly the only effective means to savor the many beaches, viewpoints, and secluded corners of the island. The resort’s at a center location, so that would be an ideal kick-off point and rentals could be arranged through their staff. It is an enjoyable and easy place to ride even if you are a beginner-the roads are narrow and quiet.

To really get everything out of Koh Phayam, you have to make your way over to the infamous Hippy Bar on Ao Khao Kwai (Buffalo Bay). It’s a huge, sprawling, and fantastic bar, all built from driftwood which makes it look like some giant pirate ship. It’s only a short scooter trip from the resort and an absolute must-see for that special artistic ambience – especially under the sunset.

For a great beach day head to Aow Yai (Long Beach). It is the main surfing beach on the island and as advertised quite vast – 3km of soft sand. You can rent a surfboard here for next to nothing, the beach is lined with unfussy, chilled-out bars and restaurants, a perfect place to while away the day relaxing, swimming and soaking up the mellow vibe.

Finally, there's the great café at the resort. Really good coffee and food. Recommended: the homemade roti, Massaman curry, or a fresh fruit smoothie. You can begin your day by having a great breakfast there and return in the afternoon to this cafe’s shaded lounge which helps one to get away from midday heat and enjoy a book reading time with peaceful jungle like’ backdrops.
